“My work/life balance is really suffering. When I get a new job, I want to have my needs met.”
Work/life balance problems go unaddressed when people do not have the right things provided for them through their workplace. Having the right money, vacation, flexible working time and location, and parental leave benefits all can alleviate the mental health cost and reduce loss of work productivity.
For new and young workers, like Nevada, employment contracts are intimidating, sometimes difficult to understand, and often the potential of what to include or to negotiate for is not taken advantage of.
These insights help Nevada because:
Her lack of experience with contracts makes her weary of all the legal clauses and she worries it will not be good for her, but will accept it anyway.
This feature tells her what’s going on and how to deal with different topics and clauses in her contract.
Through this product pitch, I told a story about this product through the eyes of Nevada, who came as a result of my research.
I showed how this product will be the solution to her pain points and fit into the set business constraints from the challenge.
The research informed the product, the usability testing improved it, and the pitch put all of the ideas into one digestible format to gain buy-in from the stakeholders.
If you want to see a version of this pitch for yourself, reach out! I’m happy to discuss my work.
A recap of the question that the product should be an answer to:
How might we enable people to individually negotiate for what they need to have less stress and to improve their balance between work and life?
Nevada now has a tool that lessens the stresses of sifting through a contract. She can use the information to negotiate a situation for herself that improves her work/life balance and know that she didn’t miss anything important in her contract.
